How The Program Works

A daunting challenge has been finding employers who are able to employ and mentor these young people. Our research and conversations with the Jim Casey Foundation and other national leaders suggest that this is a universal challenge. There are no successful programs to model that include both strategies for hiring and retention.  There are a number of programs that provide employers stipends to hire a youth.  However, when the stipend expires, so does the job.  It seems to be a poor experience for both employer and youth. Few employers understand the experiences that these youth have had and are not prepared to provide the support they need.  However, with education and support provided to both the youth and employer, this is an opportunity for the youth to have a successful first job and the employer prepared and willing to hire other youth.
